Leaves and Relativity

Before the leaves leave the trees, a bit of gratitude.

Long Ago

Long ago,
When all was elemental,
God said to the beginnings of life,
“Take water and air,
And make sugar with the sun.
That should be good for a nice long run.”

Without Leaves

Without leaves,
There’d be no us, no we,
No I or me.
There’d be no irony,
No victory, no Theory of Relativity.
